Exel GRP Ltd is a British manufacturer of custom-made electrical enclosures, kiosks and cabinets, producing bespoke and standard housings in GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) and steel. Headquartered in Nottingham, we design and build enclosures to any size, specification and finish — supplying customers throughout the United Kingdom.
We are the manufacturer, not a distributor or reseller. Every GRP and steel enclosure is designed and built in-house, which means direct-from-factory pricing, genuine engineering flexibility, and the capability to produce large, complex bespoke units that stockists simply cannot match.
Exel GRP Ltd was incorporated in 2018 (UK Company No. 11357257), but the expertise behind the business goes back considerably further. Our team brings over 15 years of hands-on experience in GRP and steel enclosure manufacturing — knowledge built across real projects, real specifications and real deadlines in the UK infrastructure and utilities market.
That experience is what separates us from newer entrants. We understand what DNOs and utility contractors actually need on site, we know the common failure points in enclosure design, and we build accordingly. The company may have been formally established in 2018 — the engineering knowledge behind it was not.
Today we supply water utilities, Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), electrical contractors, principal contractors and infrastructure developers throughout the United Kingdom, from our Nottingham manufacturing base.
Our manufacturing base is Unit 1, Swinstead Close Industrial Estate — a 13,024 ft² production facility with first-floor offices and a self-contained yard, located approximately 2.5 miles from Nottingham city centre. This facility houses our core GRP and steel manufacturing operations alongside our design and customer services teams.
In addition to our Nottingham headquarters, Exel GRP operates a manufacturing facility in Europe, extending our production capacity and supporting our growth into international markets.
Alongside our main unit we operate additional manufacturing space, giving us over 20,000 sq ft of combined floor area and the tooling capacity to produce large-format and walk-in enclosures that most manufacturers cannot accommodate. Our Nottingham expansion was covered by East Midlands Business Link in April 2026, recognising Exel GRP as a growing specialist manufacturer in the region.
Glass Reinforced Plastic is the material of choice for outdoor electrical installations across UK infrastructure. Our GRP enclosures are lightweight, non-conductive and fully corrosion-proof, making them ideal for coastal, damp, chemical and outdoor environments. Supplied as standard with IP55 ingress protection and fire-retardant laminate to BS476 Part 7 Class 2, our GRP range covers single door cabinets, double door enclosures, meter boxes and walk-in kiosks — all available in any BS or RAL colour. Higher ingress protection ratings including IP65 and above are available upon request. Every GRP enclosure is manufactured in-house at our Nottingham facility.
For applications where physical security and impact resistance are the priority, we supply heavy-duty steel enclosures in powder-coated galvanised steel. These are well suited to high-risk public areas, critical switchgear installations and anti-vandal applications, ranging from slimline wall-mounted cabinets through to large floor-standing and walk-in steel enclosures.
For environments requiring maximum corrosion resistance — marine, chemical, food-grade and coastal installations — we supply premium-grade stainless steel enclosures sourced from trusted partners. Stainless steel offers superior resistance to aggressive environments where standard steel or GRP may not be specified.
Our walk-in kiosks provide secure, full-access housing for substations, LV distribution panels, switchgear, metering systems and infrastructure equipment. Backed by our expanded manufacturing capacity, we produce walk-in enclosures at scales most manufacturers cannot accommodate — primarily in GRP, with steel options available.
We supply feeder pillars and floor-standing enclosures for electrical connections, street lighting controls and distribution boards. Both root-mounted and surface-mounted options are available, built with robust locking and high IP ratings as standard.
Compact, UV-stabilised GRP meter boxes for gas, water and electricity metering applications, available in multiple sizes and locking configurations suitable for utility and DNO installations.
Our most requested capability. We design and manufacture fully bespoke GRP and steel enclosures to any dimension, door arrangement, IP rating, ventilation configuration, colour and internal fit-out. Enclosures can also be supplied with pre-installed electrical packages, reducing on-site labour and programme time.
